Russia-Ukraine was the latest update: the Kremlin will hold fictitious referendums

Moscow-backed separatists and Russian administrators will begin holding organized referendums in four Ukrainian territories under Kremlin control from Friday, in the latest salvo of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s plan to formally annex areas of the country. The vote, which will not be free and fair, represents an escalation of Putin’s invasion. Putin hopes the land takeover will allow him to label Kiev’s attempts to reclaim its territories as attacks on Russia itself, analysts said.
