Penguin Random House Expands Partnership With Dark Horse To Distribute Single Issue Comics / Manga – News

The companies enter into an exclusive multi-year agreement around the world


Dark horse comics announced Wednesday that it has entered into a multi-year worldwide exclusive agreement with the Random house of penguins publishing group for the sale and distribution of the latter Black Horsenewly published and backlisted comic book, graphic novel and manga periodicals to run the comics shops on the market. (The direct market is mainly made up of comic stores that receive their inventories from certain distributors, separate from most other types of bookstores or mass retailers.) This expands the companies’ current partnership, where Random house of penguins sells and distributes Black Horse‘s sells books and graphic novels to bookstores.

Diamond distribution what Black Horsehas been the previous partner for nearly 30 years. Black Horsethe products will however remain available on Diamond.

Random house of penguins Publisher Services customers include Entertainment of the seven seas, Kodansha USA Publishing (which manages the Kodansha comics Other vertical fingerprints), Square Enix Holdings Co., Ltd. for its Manga and Square Enix books editorial labels, e Dark horse comics.

ViacomCBS announced in November 2020 that it had agreed to sell the publishing business Simone & Schuster to Random house of penguins LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Bertelsmann SE & Co. KGaA, for $ 2.175 billion. The cash transaction was to be completed in 2021. Mike Richardson founded Dark horse comics in 1986 as an offshoot of his Things From Another World comic book chain. The company released its first manga, Godzilla: the king of monstersin 1987.

Last December, Embracer Group AB entered into an acquisition agreement Black Horse Average. Embracer acquired the company in March, realizing Black Horse its 10th operational group.

The company partnered with Hong Kong-based entertainment company Vanguard Visionary Associates in 2018. Richardson said at the time that it would retain a “large chunk” of the company after a “large investment in a number of areas, including the purchase of shares, … a development fund and a motion picture fund, investments in the publishing and product divisions and the expansion of our retail operations. ”
