We live in a timeline where digitization has taken over most of our daily routines and the internet is rapidly shifting to the Web3. One of the biggest developments in this area is the metaverse.

More than a buzzword, the metaverse is a space that encapsulates AR, VR and 3D virtual worlds or “extended realities” (XR) to foster social connections. KPMG even predicts that people will spend more time in the metaverse than in the real world by 2030.

“People will apply for jobs, earn a living, meet friends, shop and even get married using the virtual capabilities of the metaverse,” the report said.

But to create a viable ecosystem for this reality, it must be built by real humans. Hence the International Asia XRskills Summit (XRskills), a conference organized by Cuberlab.

The target? Encourage young talent to fill workforce gaps in metaverse-related industries such as gaming, programming, 3D animation, and more.

In short, Cuberlab is a professional training and coaching service for emerging global technologies such as AR, VR, Internet of Things (IoT), along with robotics and automation.

Educating educators

Kenny Lim, Head of Immersive Tech and Gaming at Cuberlab shared that this summit wants to emphasize the exchange between industry and academia to initiate collaborations in immersive technology.

In order for us to see development in the metaverse, stakeholders with a direct influence on potential skilled talents must be able to educate them about future opportunities that exist outside the walls of their schools.

Therefore, XRSkills intends to welcome top leaders such as university deans, academics and program leaders to the conference, along with policy makers and government agencies.

Of course, students themselves interested in metaverse technologies are also welcome to participate.

This will indirectly bring academics and educators together to identify problems and fill skill gaps within the following ecosystem of industry talent.

lasting results

The XR, gaming and metaverse industries are constantly making progress. People who want a career in this field need to have a strong background in programming, passion and time, so they have a good chance of getting to where they need to be, Kenny said.

To ensure that recent graduates are equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills, the summit will host speakers on ongoing developments in Malaysia and ASEAN Web3 to educate educators.

The lineup will include a handful of influential names in the mixed reality space such as:

The summit, which will last a full day from 9:10 am to 6:45 pm, will cover topics including “Higher education needs to keep up with the industry”, “The gap between skilled VS. skills shortages in Asia ”and“ What is the metaverse and why? ”.

Ultimately, one of the ultimate goals of this conference is to diagnose and implement effective skills upgrading or retraining of educators and students alike in metaverse-related developments.

Ensuring that the Summit’s lessons remain as a lifelong skill enhancement, Cuberlab also hosts seminars on topics in AR and VR design, game development, and more.

“Improving skills ensures that employees’ skills don’t become obsolete and shows that you care about their careers and their future,” shared Kenny.

The world is changing rapidly and, with it, the future of work. Even though the workforce is highly skilled and educated, changes in the industry require constant adaptation.
