The Seattle Mariners weren’t able to enjoy the Jarred Kelenic they hoped they traded with a few years ago.
He was strong in September last year but otherwise had a tough season (.615 OPS and a couple of minor league bouts).
As he’s been brilliant over the past month, many fans (and the Mariners front office) believed he understood things, but in 2022 he came out of it struggling.
After a long crisis, he was sent off in the first half.
He has a .903 OPS in Triple-A this season, but only a .463 in the bigs.
Called up again in the majors in recent days, he needs a big boost of confidence to move forward.
Luckily, he had one on Wednesday afternoon.
“Jarred Kelenic goes deep! The Mariners scored three home runs against Gerrit Cole in the first inning for the 6-0! ” Talkin ‘Baseball tweeted Wednesday afternoon.

Kelenic needs confidence to be successful
In fact, they ambushed Cole with six points in the first frame of today’s game.
Kelenic was responsible for two of those runs with his big blast to the right field.
Cole knew the ball had exploded when he turned and put his hands on his legs in disappointment.
It was Kelenic’s fourth home run of the season in MLB.
However, even after the explosion, its OPS is still a very disappointing .510.
It is hitting .135 / .208 / .302.
If he can replicate his Triple-A success in the stretch run for the Mariners, their prospects for the rest of the season (and the playoffs) will be much, much brighter.
It is still an important part of their future.
